What it is

Training instead of a test

B196 is not a licence class of its own but a code entered into your existing licence. You complete a set course with us, we confirm it – and the licensing authority adds the code.

The training comprises four units of theory and five units of practical riding, each lasting 90 minutes. There is no test. Important: the entitlement is valid in Germany only.

  • Motorcycles up to 125 cc and a maximum of 11 kW
  • Four units of theory and five of practice, 90 minutes each
  • No theory test and no practical test
  • Entered by the licensing authority once we confirm the training

Questions about B196

No. B196 involves neither a theory nor a practical test. You complete the prescribed training, we issue the confirmation, the authority enters the code.

Four units of theory and five of practice, 90 minutes each. How quickly that happens depends on how closely we can schedule the dates – with good availability it is done within a few weeks.

Motorcycles up to 125 cc with a maximum output of 11 kW and a power-to-weight ratio of no more than 0.1 kW per kilogram. In other words, the classic 125, including scooters.

Unfortunately not. The five years are set by law and cannot be shortened. If you want to ride sooner, class A1 with a regular test is the way – just ask us about it.
