The classes

Which class suits you?

The motorcycle classes build on one another. Starting early means moving up through A1 and A2 – and skipping the theory test on the way up, provided you have held the previous class for at least two years.

If you only start at 24 you can go straight for class A. Which route is better value depends on your age and your plans – we work that out with you when you come in.

  • AM from 15: scooters and mopeds up to 45 km/h
  • A1 from 16: up to 125 cc, maximum 11 kW
  • A2 from 18: up to 35 kW, upgrade possible after two years
  • A from 20 with A2 held previously, or direct access from 24

What is different on two wheels

Protective gear is compulsory

Helmet, gloves, jacket, trousers and sturdy boots. We discuss what you still need before your first lesson.

The practice area comes first

We start on a closed training area. Only once moving off, braking and slalom are solid do we go out into traffic.

Special drives, same as for cars

Country roads, motorway and night drives are part of compulsory motorcycle training too.

Requirements

What you need to bring

  • The minimum age for the class in question
  • Valid ID with proof of registration and a biometric photo
  • Eye test and first aid course if you do not yet hold a licence
  • Full protective gear for practical training
Already hold class B?

Then theory is reduced to six double periods of basic material plus the class-specific part. And if you only want to ride a 125, B196 may well be the shorter route.

FAQ

Questions about the motorcycle licence

If you have held A2 for at least two years, a practical test is enough with no repeat theory test. If you upgrade earlier or take direct access at 24, full training is required.

Not automatically. You need code B196 for that. You can get it without a test if you are at least 25 and have held class B for at least five years.

We discuss helmet and basic equipment individually. Mention it when you register and we will clarify what you need to buy and what we can provide.
