Learn more – The car licenceOnce the trailer gets heavier, class B is no longer enough. Class BE lets you tow trailers over 750 kilograms and reach a combination of up to seven tonnes.
Class B lets you tow trailers up to 750 kilograms – and heavier ones only if the combination of towing vehicle and trailer stays below 3.5 tonnes. With a caravan or horse trailer that limit is reached quickly.
BE extends this considerably: the trailer may weigh up to 3.5 tonnes and the whole combination up to seven. There is no theory test, only a practical one.
No compulsory lessons are prescribed for BE. How much practice you need depends on your experience with manoeuvring and reversing.
In the practical test, reversing around a corner and coupling and uncoupling are where things most often go wrong. That is exactly what we practise until it sits.
